Back on the 2nd of January, SSG Collin Bowen's vehicle was struck by a roadside bomb. The explosion killed SGT Shawn Hill of South Carolina and an interpreter we all knew as Durango. SSG Bowen and LTC Richard Berrettini, from Pennsylvania both suffered severe burns to their bodies requiring their evacuation to the states for treatment. On the 12th of January, LTC "DOC B" Berrettini passed away due to his injuries. Collin is still in the hospital recovering from his injuries and has many surgeries in the future. His wife Ursula has set up a website (www.collinbowen.com) to keep everyone updated as to his condition, and she normally updates the site daily. Any support that can be shown for Collin and his family, even just e-mails, would go a long way to help them recover from this event. The reason I am posting this is because I worked with SSG Colling Bowen in Afghanistan, and those of us that are still in country feel the void of his absence as well as that of SGT Hill, LTC Betrettini and Durango. I feel that this is the least I can do to try and support Collin and his family while I am still in Afghanistan.
